Boycott!

Apparently a sewing company called Sew Fast Sew Easy has decided that the term Stitch and Bitch belongs to them (they are currently in the process of applying for a trademark on "Stitch and Bitch Cafe") and are doing their best to ensure that no one else uses that term for anything. Not even for a non-profit knitting group. For shame! Stitch and Bitch is a long used term for any group that gathers to knit, crochet, sew and or cross stitch. It has been in general use for as long as the word bitch has been used in place of complain.
Since this company decided to lay claim to the creation of this phrase, (1997) they have shut down people's on-line groups and are currently harrassing (threatening lawsuits against) groups of people who are using this to advertise their knitting/crocheting/sewing/quilting/cross stitch group meetings and events. Keep in mind that these are people just like you and I. They aren't using the term to sell anything or to raise money for themselves or others. I personally will not give my hard earned money to any company who is this petty. I urge you not to either. Join me and many others in a boycott of this company (based out of New York) to encourage them to grow up and stop the harrassment of responsible citizens who are excersising their right to Free Speech.

I'd post links, but I'm not very good at this yet and don't know how. One of these days I'll get a little time (when I'm not too tired to think straight and retain information) to sit and figure it out.

Oh Joy.

Yay. A conservative minority government. Lucky us. Let's all hope and pray they don't sell off Canada and our children too! Well, at least if they really want to get anything through parliment, they have to get either the NDP or the Bloc on board. So cool to see an independant kick ass in his riding! Shows just how burnt out Canadians are of the current parties.

The good, the bad and the ugly.

The good: I finally finished two knitting projects! A pillowcover for a 14" pillow form (from Mary Maxim) and a hat for my husband (pattern from my LYS using two yarns held together). Lewiscraft was having a sale on Patons yarn and I managed to get a few balls of yarn.
The bad: My husband's head doesn't quite fit into the hat!
The ugly: I've really got to learn a better method of sewing seams on knitted projects. ... Well, anything really.
My daughter wants to go on www.sesameworkshop.org now. I must go.
